The Ski/Snowboard Guide Level 1 course follows the ACMG/IFMGA curriculum and introduces students to the basic skill sets required for a successful backcountry mountaineering experience.

Students are exposed to avalanche safety, backcountry travel preparations, basic ski mountaineering and rescue skills.

As per ACMG course specification the course outcome is:
  • Students will be able to identify routes for ski/snowboard single day trips
  • Identify foundational skills required by ACMG/IFMGA and other international guiding standards relevant to the industry
  • Possess knowledge of basic backcountry skiing technique and etiquette
  • Ability to manage terrain and complete an accent and decent in backcountry terrain
  • Demonstrate basic avalanche rescue skills
  • Knowledge of basic backcountry gear
  • Complete Canadian Avalanche 1 Certification
