From México to Whistler:
A GAP Year Full of Adventure and Growth
Spreading the word about Whistler Adventure School in México!
Why Take a GAP Year?
Taking a GAP year means pressing pause — but with purpose. It’s a chance to step outside the routine, explore the world, try new things, and get to know yourself. Whether you travel, volunteer, work, or learn something practical, a GAP year can help you grow in ways a classroom never could.
In countries like the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, taking a GAP year before university is a well-established practice. But in many other parts of the world, it hasn’t been that common — until recently. More and more young people (and their parents) are starting to realize that taking a break —on purpose— can actually help you start your future with greater clarity, confidence, and motivation.
In Mexico, taking a GAP year is starting to catch on — but many students, parents, and even teachers still don’t know what real options are out there. That’s why we’ve been visiting high schools in Mexico to share an exciting option: studying, living, and working in Canada, surrounded by nature, mountains, and adventure.
Real Options, Real Growth — What a GAP Year Can Really Be
WAS offers 6-month to 1-year hands-on programs focused on adventure tourism and outdoor skills. Here, learning doesn’t just happen in a classroom — you’ll be out on the mountain, on the trails, or behind the camera, gaining real-life experience while living something unforgettable. You’ll earn a diploma or certificate, and even work while you study.
It’s a GAP year that gives you room to grow without losing sight of what’s next.
- Learn new professional skills through hands-on programs like Marketing & Media Manager or Bike Guide Training.
- Improve your English while studying and working in a real-world setting.
- Get valuable work experience in Canada.
- Meet international friends and build lifelong connections.
- Live surrounded by forests, lakes, and mountains — and turn nature into your classroom through meaningful experiences like Sustainable Trail Building.
